S. Rasoul Etesami | University of Illinois

About me

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am also affiliated with the Coordinated Science Laboratory (CSL), where I am a member of the Decision and Control (DCL) group. Prior to that, I spent one year (2016-2017) as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University and WINLAB. I received my Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in December 2015, during which I spent a summer as a Research Intern at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs.

My research involves understanding complex social, communication, and decision-making systems using tools from control theory, game theory, and optimization theory. My research is supported by the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and I am currently serving as an Associate Editor of the Journal of IET Smart Grid.

    Prospective graduate students

We are always looking for motivated graduate students with a strong mathematical background. Unfortunately, due to a large number of inquiries, I do not respond frequently to emails regarding graduate school positions. However, if interested, please apply directly to the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and mention my name in your application, and I will be happy to review your application during the review process.
